1. FADO WORKSHOP: Winter Performance Art Intensive with Andrés Galeano
Date: February 20-23, 2012; City: Toronto, Canada

FADO Performance Art Centre is pleased to offer a 4-day performance art workshop intensive facilitated by Andrés Galeano. This workshop will take place over the mid-term winter break, and at its conclusion offers participants the opportunity to present a performance work to a public audience.

Performance Art Workshop: Interaction with Objects
Facilitated by Andrés Galeano

Date: February 20-23, 2012
Times: Each day from 10am-6pm (with breaks)
Location: TBC (downtown Toronto)
Number of Participants: maximum 10
Cost: FREE

This workshop is presented in association with The 34th Rhubarb Festival, coinciding with Step by Step, by Andrés Galeano and Ieke Trinks, performed February 27 - March 3, 2013.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Performance Art is often defined as a non-objectual art practice that celebrates proudly its ephemeral character by creating situations that are experienced live. Despite this almost every performance art work can be characterized by the interaction of the artist’s body with objects in concrete time and space. This performance art workshop aims to focus on the different uses, potential interactions and properties regarding this very important performance element: the object.

Some objects seem to gaze back at us and attract our attention and curiosity. The workshop will explore these “special” objects and our relation to them through the concepts of aura, fetish, relic, symbol, poetic, memories, body, narration, fiction, transformation, function, meaning, (im)materiality, (in)visibility, presence/absence etc. in order to create a performance based on a composition of actions involving objects.

The workshop will provide each participant with cross-disciplinary artistic instruments (such as text, speech, sound, video, photography, painting, sculpture, installation) and with historical and contemporary examples of different strategies for dealing with objects (including Dadaism, Happenings, Fluxus, Body Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Arte Povera, Visual Poetry, Concrete Music) in order to obtain the necessary theoretical and practical background for developing their own performances.

Every participant is asked to bring three personal objects to work with during the workshop. These objects will be the starting point for the various tasks and discussions in the workshop. The objects could be personally very resonant, reminding of a specific time or place, or they can be mundane objects that are encountered on a daily basis. In either case they will be treated as propositions for potential actions and conceptual exploration.

PARTICIPATION CRITERIA
The workshop is open to students and professional artists who have a background in contemporary art practice. Although this is a performance art workshop, applicants are welcome from any artistic background, as long as they have a desire to engage with a performative process and tasks. The workshop may be of particular relevance to visual artists or text and sound based artists who have an interest in more conceptual based processes.

Please email: info@performanceart.ca with inquiries and questions. Please send us a brief outline of your experience/interest. It is crucial that participants commit to attending all 4 days of the workshop. Deadline for expressions of interest: January 30, 2013. MAXIMUM number of participants is 10.

The Dinner Party is a one night only event on Friday, November 30th that invites our guest to partake in a performance art spectacle in our dining room.  This event seeks to investigate the relationship between people, food, and the variety of ways we act as hosts in a dynamic art happening. The Dinner Party seeks to create a lively conversation in the gallery where interaction with the performers, tasting new food, and talking with different people will generate an immersive art experience. Four graduate students in the Interdisciplinary Masters in Art and Design program have organized this event to showcase performance art being created at the MFA level. Performance art will be mixed with food and hospitality to create a new environment where exploding desserts, photographic fruit and hostile soup exist. The evening is divided into four courses where Brette Gabel, Humboldt Magnussen, Marjan Verstappen, and Parastoo Anoushah will combine food, hospitality, and art.

VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK is a live art exhibition project dedicated to contemporary Performance Art showcasing 31 Performance artists from around the globe. The exhibition consists of a vibrant program of live performances, installations, photographic and video documentation, as well as daily artist talks and presentations.

The VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK in its first edition explores, under the topic “Hybrid Body – Poetic Body”, concepts such as interconnectivity, empathy, struggle, love, political habits and sociability, and how the Self relates to them. Two-way communication between the artists and the audience is key, and some of the strongest themes to emerge during this week will relate to living with more care and creating mechanisms for positive change.

8. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Rapid Pulse International Performance Art Festival
Deadline date: January 5, 2013; City: Chicago, USA; Source: Joseph Ravens

DEFIBRILLATOR Performance Art Gallery is accepting proposals for the second annual RAPID PULSE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL to be held JUNE 1-10, 2013. RAPID PULSE aims to represent a vast range of styles and forms of ephemeral expression. We are seeking proposals for performance art or any other time-based work that does not sit comfortably within pre-established genres or disciplines.

Contextualizing performance within visual art, we embrace artists who look to the body, objects, space, and time for inspiration, research, and practice. We are committed to invigorating CHICAGO by bringing to the city artists of exceptional caliber from around the world. Dynamic programming, decidedly fearless and unique, aims to provoke thought and stimulate discourse surrounding performance art.

We regret that we are not able to pay for travel expenses. However, six days of accommodation and one daily meal will be provided. Accepted artists will receive a printed catalog and copies of their documentation. Formal letters of invitation will be provided so that selected artists may find funding in their home countries.

DEADLINE: MIDNIGHT JANUARY 5, 2013 (CST central standard time). You can find a link to the application on our website: www.DFBRL8R.org

To learn more about the festival, please visit the RAPID PULSE 2012 website at www.RAPIDPULSE.org
