Durational performance is mode of live art where the artist works directly with the medium of time. Over the course of hours, days or longer the performer and the audience can experience a physical, mental, spiritual and/or emotional transformation. Durational performance functions to bring the performer and the audience into the moment; time is made palatable and visceral. Artists like Teching Hsieh, Alastair MacLennan, and most famously, Marina Abromavic, demonstrate how durational performance art can use mental and physical endurance to challenge the commoditization of art by offering an experience of art that is ephemeral by nature.
FADO is seeking proposals of durational performance works from emerging artists to be presented in our 2014 edition of the Emerging Artists Series, entitled 11:45PM. Performances should be a minimum of 6-hours and a maximum of 4-days. FADO and Xpace define emerging artists as those who are 2-3 years out of school, are at the beginning stages of their careers, and have not yet had the opportunity for a professional presentation of their work.
The series is curated by Kate Barry in consultation with Xpace and a committee of local emerging artists. The deadline for submissions is December 15, 2013.
PLEASE NOTE: This series seeks to highlight the work of Toronto, regional and Canadian artists. This is not an international call. (Our budgets can’t support international submissions/artists.) In addition, by “emerging” we are referring to artists who are in the beginning stages of their careers and who have not had a professional presentation of their work. Please contact us for clarification if needed.

MAKING SPACE intends to propose a platform for the exchange and discourse amongst emerging and established performance artists based in Southeast and East Asia.
With such precursors as Womanifesto initiated in Thailand in 1997 and inspired by a more recent exchange programme for female artists based in Southeast Asia which took place at the end of September 2012 in Yangon, Myanmar, MAKING SPACE focuses solely on female artists. Ultimately, far from being a presentation of the best performances, MAKING SPACE ‘s primary concern is to create an environment conducive to the exploration of performance art practices relevant to the body and consciousness of the female psyche in Asia. As such presence of both emerging and established artists will offer the opportunity of uncovering the personal and artistic achievements and challenges of practitioners at different stages of their career, whilst exploring notions of art and life within the female perspective. Escaping the tempting label of feminist event and therefore the risk of being received as a mere reaction to a male-dominated environment, whereby its focus may risk shifting onto an antagonistic position, MAKING SPACE intends to literally offer a physical and metaphysical space for female performance artists to express their concerns and share the richness of their superimposing experience as women and as artists from their specific ever changing political, social and cultural climate.
MAKING SPACE will unfold in several directions to include platforms for theoretical and practical discourse. A workshop conducted by Arahmaiani Feisal will be open to the invited artists, female art students and women interested in developing a deeper and practical understanding and experience of performance art. A forum, Anatomising Performance, open to all, will present the opportunity to bring the discussion on the theme of female body and consciousness and the process of construction of performances to the public in order to achieve a wider understanding of this practice. And finally, three evenings of performances will try to engage the public into the richness and possibilities of performance art.

Nine different performance artists can be experienced in "Kunsthal Charlottenborg" under the same roof for one night only. "Show and Tell" offers an insight into contemporary performance art, and presents a varied program that includes Danish and international artists in the fields of performance, sound, and installation.

The program presents works of art that investigate the body's increasingly symbiotic relationship to the machine, a performance lecture on the territory that connects storytelling, poetry and conveying knowledge. The program will in addition present an investigation of indexicality and iSociety, an architectural listening experience, and an auditive piece of art that is generated by the audience and an extraordinary requiem. In addition to the performance program, there will also be an exhibition opening of the Brazilian artist Rivane Neuenschwander's contribution the art gallery's current exhibition "POST".
POST is a series of exhibitions where the invited artists mail their works of art and material. Neuenschwander mixes painting, photography, sculpture, and installation and often works with the audience as a central part of her art. Furthermore she works with living animals where, among other things, she has worked with ants, snails and goldfish. This evening will invite you to a unique mixture of two exhibitions, ten artists and three hours of performance art.

Action! Mad13 X - Action Art Meeting BACK ... with withered face time snows whitened my temples.
This year marks a decade. Ten years of work and growth in an environment and time as we know it was nothing suitable for art, culture and in general for any independent initiative.
We started on being a festival with a program of between ten and fifteen performances. This year more than forty activities programmed in eleven venues, from the self-managed social center La Tabacalera de Lavapies National Museum Reina Sofia Art Centre and of course Matadero Madrid since 2009 is our reference host. Different Spaces very different proposals hosting exhibitions, panel discussions, presentations, and of course performances.
Co Space has spread throughout the year 2013 and will continue throughout the first quarter of 2014 specifically with the draft partnership with the Bbeyond Belfast Northern Ireland, because cooperation between artists and organizations, which has been doing year year more and more important organic is the only chance of survival structures such as Action! MAD.
Of these productions should be noted that we organized in collaboration with The Most Beautiful, a project of reflection, action and experimentation in the world of contemporary art publishing, which since 1993 promotes and carries out artistic projects specifically designed to be edited by channels and alternative methods to conventional publishing world.
Fragile Space has organized this year also in collaboration with the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and consists of program graduates that from February to October Action! MAD taught in the Faculty. An initiative that is sometimes inbred renewing of live art practice new and exciting looks.
Finally note that half of our programming is dedicated to the art of action by women by the enormous importance of his work has contributed to the genre and in this sense to remind the artist Monica Ross presented his work "Acts of Memory" a memory read of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in the latest issue of Action! MAD and who died on June 14.

This first African contemporary performance art biennial will inspire its participants and the world at large to appreciate contemporary performance art in Africa. With a curated selection of more than 50 leading artists from Africa and beyond; 15 art historians, writers and curators, 1st AFiRIperFOMA Biennial will celebrate the dynamism, vitality and tangibility of contemporary performance art in Africa.
Before the advent of colonialism in Africa, performance art was an integral part of African visual culture. Ancient African costumes and sculptures, especially masks, on display in museums, galleries and art institutions all over the world, were created for a performative purpose. 1st AFiRIperFOMA Biennial is bringing performance art back to its roots.
Mnemonic 1st AFiRIperFOMA Biennial will be held under the general title of “Mnemonic”. A mnemonic is a device used to support the memorization of ideas and materials – an aid to human memory. The title is to be understood as an allegory of the powerful multi-dimensionality of the continent’s past and contemporary history.
The participating artists in the Biennial will focus on profound issues of identity, the power of objects, as well as spiritual and cultural transmigration in Africa. They will perform in public spaces attracting the attention of people passing by as well as in institutional contexts such as galleries.
The Biennial is held in partnership with University of Zimbabwe, First Floor Gallery Harare, Video Art Network (VAN) of Lagos, Myvision Limited, Lagos and other institutions around the world, especially from the African continent.

Exhibition of Video Documentation of Performance Art The video exhibition Time to Pretend Constructions of Heritage, Memory & Belonging will present performance-influenced videos and videos documenting works of the following artists: Chriss Aghana Nwobu (Nigeria), Dennis Feser (Germany), Kemang Wa Lehulere (South Africa), Jeannette Ehlers (Denmark), Marcio Carvalho (Portugal/Germany), Mudi Yayah (Nigeria), and Wura-Natasha Ogunji (USA/Nigeria). The exhibition is curated by Jude Anogwih (Nigeria), Martin Baasch (Germany), and Oyinda Fakeye (Nigeria) and it takes place at First Floor Gallery Harare. Exhibition of Photographic documentation of Performance Art The photographic exhibition (De)construction + (Re)collection will show case photographic images of performances by Bernard Akoi-Jackson (Ghana), Christian Etongo (Cameroun), George Afedzi Hughes (Ghana/USA), Olaniyi Rasheed Akindiya Akirash (USA/Ghana), Jerry Buhari (Nigeria), and Wanja Kimani (Kenya/UK). Workshop The workshop titled Our Bodies Do will involve a broader perspective on artistic collaborations between the workshop participants. The participants shall be encouraged to present a critical discourse on our contemporary human experiences by referencing our global transmogrification, which has had positive and negative impacts on the psychic of the world. This includes global crisis, recent demonstrations, environmental squalor, collapse of economies, social decay, crashing in monetary systems, corrupted democracies, global connections through social networks and internet, growing awareness on the state of the earth’s resources, power to the people, grassroots projects, etc.
The workshop is facilitated by Jelili Atiku (Nigeria) and Dimple Bhupatrai Shah (India) and it will take place at the Department of Theatre Art, University of Zimbabwe; and First Floor Gallery Harare.

Part mourning ritual and part meditation on the warp and weft of militarism Thread-by-Thread invites participants and witnesses into an intimate engagement not only with those who bear the weight of the uniform, but also with the multitude of nameless individuals who have been rent from the fabric of family, friends and community through the violence of militarism and war.
Embroidery for the Forgotten Dead of History: Shot at Dawn NOV 11 at 7 AM, SOLDIER’S TOWER, HART HOUSE
At dawn, on 11 November 2013, twenty-five performers will stand in front of the University of Toronto’s Soldiers’ Tower. Each wears a blindfold embroidered with the name and date of execution of one of the twenty-five Canadian WWI soldiers who were killed by firing squads made up of their peers, under the orders of their military commanders.

DIANE BORSATO will speak about her current residency at the Art Gallery of Ontario and join with Babble (Babel) artists in a public discussion. Borsato is a visual artist working in performance, intervention, video, installation, and photography. She has exhibited in galleries and museums across Canada and internationally and is currently Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studio at the University of Guelph, and lives in Toronto.

We are pleased to announce the 4th international performance art festival Guangzhou Live, which will take place from November 11-17 2013 at the YouYou Contemporary Art Centre in the art district of Xiaozhou cun. With an artist line-up that can only be compared to the most important events on the international scene, Guangzhou Live will showcase 30 international artists from more than 14 countries. Guangzhou Live continues as such its vocation to bring the most qualified artists in the field to Canton.
We are pleased to have established this experimental and avant-garde art manifestation as an essential event in the Pearl River Delta and in mainland China. If you have the passion to explore contemporary avant-garde art and experience the unique ephemeral quality of performance art, this is clearly where you should be in this second week of November. You will not be disappointed.
The continued development of Chinese performance art is assured by its large number of artists active in performance art like He Yun-chen, He Chengyao, Zhu Ming, Duan Yingmei, Huang Zhuan, Lin Yilin, Chen Jin, Shu Yang, Zhou Bin, Bai Chongming, Xi Jianjun, Chen Yufei, Xiao Lu, and Huang Rui just to name a few. There are many others of course, coming from a younger generation which is why the contemporary performance art scene in mainland China is so vital.

Submission Form New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme UNDO / REDO for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art's 2014 programming in Toronto, Canada.
Errors in judgement, actions you'd rather not have made; or conversely that perfect moment you'd like to relive, or a future you'd like built from the foundation of past successes. What if you could apply a simple editing function to your life? What if with the magic of digital technology you are enabled to undo or redo an action or group of actions? What would that sound like?
Preference in programming will be given to works that respond in some way to the theme UNDO / REDO: revisiting the past and/or changing the future. Individual interpretations or variations on the theme are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component. NAISA would also like to encourage artists to submit works on the theme UNDO / REDO for performance, gallery exhibit, screening, webcast or audio stream, radio broadcast, network or translocal performance, mobile experiences and any other emerging formats that include sound as a primary element.

The challenges facing the Western hemisphere are multidimensional and complex. Urban agglomeration, economic development, ecological crisis, military conflict, digital privacy, impediments to advanced learning, negotiations of multiple cultural and historical perspectives—these are problems with scientific and human factors that must be considered together. HASTAC 2014 challenges participants to consider the interplay of science, technology, the social sciences, the humanities, and the arts in the context of addressing the urgent contingencies facing the evolving hemisphere. Themes addressed by the conference include: -humanities research and hemispheric grand challenges -indigenous culture and technology -technology and education–open learning, peer learning, and issues of access, equity for primary and/or higher education -technology and interhemispheric communication of knowledge and publishing -heritage, patrimony, memory and the digital -new publics, movements going global and communities of the future -technology and social identity and roles: gender, race, and other identities -digital animation and other visualization media arts and sciences -games and gaming, including for learning -community development including the importance of art and culture districts -mobile technologies and everyday life -improvisation, tinkering, hacking
HASTAC 2014 will be composed of keynote addresses, paper presentations (variations detailed below), hackathons, workshops, birds of a feather meet ups, as well as performances and tech demos.
We will accept proposals for participant presentations in the following categories: 5-8 minute lightning talks; 15-20 minute talks; curated panels (lightning talks, longer talks, curated conversation); project demos; digital and/or print posters; creative performances; hackathons; birds of a feather sessions; post conference workshops (April 28th). Submission portal will be open soon, with support for proposals written in Spanish and English. We are now accepting proposals for participant presentations in the following categories:
A) 5-8 Minute Lightning Talks We seek focused, inspiring talks that can serve as both provocation and an introduction to your work in progress or your wider interests. B) 15-20 Minute Talks We also seek more traditional papers that really require more time to develop a sustained argument than a lightning talk would allow. Please let us know in your submission if you would allow us to simultaneously consider your presentation submission for a lightning talk instead of a full talk. We require: complete contact information including valid phone, e-mail, and institutional affiliation, if any; brief (200-250 word) bio; a one-page abstract of the work you would like to present that must discuss its relationship to the conference themes; any technical requirements or other support that may be required for your presentation.
C) Curated Panels If you would like to curate a panel of 3-5 lightning talks, a traditional panel of 3 papers or a structured conversation among key thinkers, we require: complete contact information including valid phone, e-mail, and institutional affiliation, if any, for all participants; brief (200-250 word) bio for all participants; a one-page abstract of the panel’s theme that must discuss its relationship to the larger conference themes, clearly identifying how each panelist will contribute; identification of the panel/group organizer who will be required to facilitate the panel/group involvement; any technical requirements or other support that may be required for the presentation.
D) Project Demos Designed to showcase well-developed digital projects or tools. Demos will be grouped in a single room and will, ideally, remain up for an entire conference day. You will have a dedicated 2-hour slot to engage with conference participants without competing with other events. You will have wireless access and a table. While we endeavor to provide projectors or other equipment for participants who make a request at the time of submission, presenters will be responsible for bringing all required technology with them. We require: complete contact information including valid phone, e-mail, and institutional affiliation, if any; brief (200-250 word) bio; a half-page abstract of the work you would like to present and a link to a project url with images or video documentation; any technical requirements or other support (including any space requirements beyond a table) that may be required for the presentation. Please indicate any equipment that is absolutely required and that you cannot bring with you. In the event that we cannot guarantee access to the equipment, we regret that we may not be able to accept your demo.
E) Digital and/or Print Posters Print posters (4 x 3’) and electronic posters (to be projected) are solicited for emerging projects, ideas, and scholars. In presenting your research with a poster, you should aim to use the poster as a means for generating active discussion of your research. Limit the text to about one-fourth of the poster space, and use visuals (graphs, photographs, schematics, maps, etc.) to tell your story. Required: complete contact information including valid phone, e-mail, and institutional affiliation; brief (200-250 word) bio; a half-page abstract of your work that must discuss its relationship to the conference themes; statement clearly identifying whether your poster will be hard-copy or digitally projected; a digital draft of your poster.
F) Creative Performances We are soliciting creative interventions too – e-lit readings, ARGs and mobile cinema, talks that cross boundaries between the academic and the poetic, tech wearables, etc. We see these as being integrated into conference sessions (i.e. if you have a five-minute piece, we might schedule it as a lighting talk), as potentially being part of scheduled evening entertainment (a 30-minute interactive dance performance or e-poetry reading), or as taking place outside of/alongside scheduled time (ie a mobile game that conference participants can download). We require: complete contact information including valid phone, e-mail, and institutional affiliation, if any; brief (200-250 word) bio; a one-page abstract of the work you would like to present that clearly identifies the genre you are working in and how, ideally, you would like it to be scheduled during the conference (including time and space requirements). Your abstract must discuss its relationship to the conference theme; any technical requirements or other support (including any space requirements). Please indicate any equipment that is absolutely required and that you cannot bring with you. In the event that we cannot guarantee access to the equipment, we regret that may not be able to accept your creative submission.
G) Maker Space We are soliciting proposals for individuals or groups to create an informal maker space, where conference participants can share, exchange, and experiment with new online tools, personal fabrication technologies, open source electronics such as Arduino, and other creative and learning devices and gadgets. Other Sessions
H) Birds of a Feather Sessions will be conversations among experts and those interested in similar topics or technologies. Sessions will aim to assemble teams and plans for multi-institutional collaborations that will extend well beyond the duration of the conference. Proposals should indicate topics, technologies, and possible outcomes.
I) Post-conference Hackathons will be sessions led by developers that will aim to stitch the varying expertise of participants into a day-long work session to develop a resource such as a website, database, application, or interactive visualization. All are welcome to participate. Full-day time slots only. Post-conference Workshops to take place April 28. Full-day or half-day workshops will be considered. If you have new tools, new approaches or seek a new community of collaborators we can provide an opportunity for you to offer full and half workshops. For consideration we require: complete contact information including valid phone, e-mail, and institutional affiliation, if any; brief (200-250 word) bio; a one- or two-page abstract of the workshop that clearly describes the goals of the workshop, its relationship to the conference theme; its target audience (and any specialized background required for participation) and whether the proposal is for a full day or half-day workshop; a brief explanation of the space and technical resources required to run the workshop.

SUMMER 2014 CALL FOR TEACHERS
The School of Making Thinking, an interdisciplinary artist residency and experimental college in upstate New York, seeks teachers for June/July 2014. At SMT, our mission is to merge the practice of thinking or academic research with a broad range of making practices such as performance, sculpture, writing, and music composition. Previous classes have explored subject areas such as Visibility in Performance, the Uncanny Imagination, and Occult Shenanigans.
Teachers will have anywhere from four to eight students over a three week period, with classes meeting twice a week. Students in the course will be artists and thinkers at the residency, each of whom will be working on a personal project in addition to their course work. The intention is that these personal projects will be influenced by the course itself. Teachers will reside at SMT and be an integral part of the creative and intellectual community alongside the residents and staff.
We have found SMT to be most fruitful for teachers who are interested in experimenting with a new way of teaching and want to do so in an environment where feedback, collaboration, and close-living are possible. Your practice for the session is a teaching practice and we want you to propose something that excites and nourishes you.
For further descriptions of previous SMT courses, please refer to our website. This is a particularly exciting year for us, as we plan to collaborate with selected teachers to design session themes based on the selected courses. Artists in the program will then be asked to work on a project / line of inquiry that specifically engages with the theme. Prior teaching experience, while preferred, is not necessary.
Teachers will be offered a 50% reduction in tuition to the program. In your application, please include: -CV -Applicant Details: -A suggested theme for the session, which you will be teaching. CALL FOR PROPOSALS 360°of Engagement: Publicly-situated performance—Publicly-situating performance process
This seminar aims to provide a forum for those on (or between) the borders of various disciplines — activist, artist, scholar — to explore the relationship between theory and praxis through a shared devising process. Each participant will develop a short performance intervention, to take place on or in the near vicinity of the campus, during breaks between conference sessions. We are interested in proposals that engage the particularities of Brock as a public space – architectural, institutional, virtual, quotidian, geopolitical – and that explore how multiply-located bodies are differently interpellated as they negotiate the space through both their presence and their absence.
In addition to publicly-situated performances we are interested in publicly situating the always complex and often hidden navigations across the intersecting terrains of artistic creation, scholarly inquiry, and political activism. This process will take the form of a blog that will act virtual studio in which we can participate in a collective devising jam session and a public forum.
Timeline January: Via the blog, seminar organizers will launch share artifacts (images, maps, articles) from a site-visit to Brock.
January - May: Participants will connect and begin sharing their processes and providing feedback via the blog. Participants will be expected to visit the blog, to share elements of their devising processes (3-4 entries), and to give feedback (2-3 entries) on the devising process of other group members.
May–CATR Conference: Performance interventions will take place during the first two days of the conference. Each participant will attend one intervention as an observer. At the post-performance seminar, we will share reflections on both the process and performance.
We welcome proposals from artists/scholars/activists interested in animating and activating public space via performance. We encourage submissions from graduate students and non-affiliated artists. The group will be limited to eight projects. Interested participants are asked to submit:
A 300-word abstract outlining your proposed project. We welcome projects still in the early stages of development. A 150-200 word bio.

This is from the curator note: Myanmar/Burma’s first DVD Magazine on contemporary art focuses on selected local artists who working in current trends of arts to exploring essential questions and concerns of present time. The works presented, with statements from the artists themselves or others active in the arts, reflects of society, while at the same time revealing the characteristic features and discourses of the art system in field of local arts. The DVD not only presents works of art, but also statements by their involving and understanding on the world of arts and culture.
All of 20 participant artists in this program DVD Magazine will be interpreting their works of arts with open-ended methodology and inquiry-base approach on the various subjects. That may provoke strong responses, or even contradict personal belief or social values. All outcome of dialogue are important things for engaging with the works of contemporary art.
