1. Tanya Mars: TYRANNY OF BLISS
June 12, 2004, 11 am- 6 pm

14 different sites: from Queen's Park along University Ave. to Queen St. W.
Performance begins in front of the Queen's Park legislative building

30 performers, 14 locations, 7 deadly sins, 7 heavenly virtues, 2 limousines
and it's free!

This weekend, don't miss the world premiere of Tanya Mars' amazing new spectacle, TYRANNY OF BLISS.

Inspired by a variety of sources ranging from the 14th Century frescoes of Ambrogio Lorenzetti on the Effects of Good and Bad Government to Fellini’s “Satyricon”, TYRANNY OF BLISS is a modern day social satire with a cast of 30 performers. Loosely based on the pageant structure of the medieval Miracle/Mystery plays, TYRANNY OF BLISS looks at the current human condition from both utopian and dystopian perspectives, featuring images based on the 7 deadly sins and the 7 heavenly virtues.

A limited number of audience members can tour the site in one of two limousines leaving every half hour from the front of the legislative buildings at Queen's Park, but to get the full experience we recommend traveling on foot to all of the 14 sites, where scenes will be unfolding continuously throughout the day.

Performance art meets pageantry on a scale that Toronto has never seen before. TYRANNY OF BLISS promises a thrilling and provocative meditation on city life, providing a unique experience of Toronto that is not to be missed!

Deadline: August 1, 2004; Source: Mideo M. Cruz, Iwan WIjono

Mideo M. Cruz writes:

[9-11 &Mac184;] is a simultaneous art action in different countries subsequent to the ground zero incidences. The theme can vary on open interpretation on how the people and artists from the area concerned were affected and react to the American policy and mission behind the September 11 attack. As various individuals and ethnic groups are affected by this phenomena. The objective of this project is the realization of other incidents behind the twin towers attack that eradicated from our mind but continue to hunt us like the September 11 US initiated takeover to Santiago, Chile decades ago, which kill hundreds of people. This project is in sympathy to the innocent victims and protest to the enduring physical and cultural war of aggressions. This collaborative project can be an individual or collective action, or events in each place who wish to take part the event on September 11, 2004 at any time of the day.
