Mammalian Diving Reflex presents Parkdale Public School vs. Queen West
- final 5 rounds! -

Mammalian Diving Reflex continues to tour the world with its international hit Haircuts by Children, presenting in NYC, LA, Bologna, Sydney, Dublin, Portland, Vancouver, Milan, Terni, and more! And it all started in Toronto's own Parkdale at the Parkdale Public School with Ms. Biber's grade 5s proving that kids cutting hair is some seriously good art. And now that Parkdale Public School has taken on the world, they're ready to take on QUEEN STREET WEST in the ultimate showdown: the dual in 'dale! PARKDALE PUBLIC SCHOOL VS. QUEEN WEST

In this corner we have: the Kids, 647 of them. A massively diverse crew obsessed with Playstation, teddy bears, fairness, and running the world.
In the other corner: Artsters, predominantly white, mostly from other provinces, well-educated in the liberal arts, ready and eager to get drunk at gallery openings and always on the look-out for exciting but cheap ethnic dining experiences.

One of Toronto's most diverse neighbourhoods, Parkdale has exploded with cultural activity, seen the encroachment of gentrification, and is also home to new Canadians from almost fifty different countries. Mammalian Diving Reflex presents a Ten-Round encounter between the Parkdale Public School students and artists in the neighbourhood, resulting in performances, public talks, public walks, dinner, dancing and a film-screening. It's a vibrant pile of creativity, intelligence and entertainment.

Who will be the winna in this ultimate battle?!? The dual in the 'dale. Place your bets.

Mammalian Diving Reflex is an award-winning contemporary, interdisciplinary theatre company that creates innovative and critically acclaimed performances. Functioning as a research-art atelier dedicated to investigating the social sphere, we are always on the lookout for contradictions to whip into aesthetically scintillating experiences, producing one-off events, theatre-based performance, theoretical texts and community happenings. Haircuts by Children was called the Best of New York City's Performa by ArtINFO.net, Slow Dance with Teacher was called "a tour de force", by Art Gallery of Ontario's contemporary curator, David Moos and Darren O'Donnell's book Social Acupuncture, prompted the Globe and Mail to declare "O'Donnell writes like a sugar-addled genius at 300km/hr."

Parkdale Public School vs. Queen West has been generously supported by the Toronto Community Foundation's Growing Active Kids Program; the Ontario Arts Council Foundation's Arts Education Partnership Initiative; and the City of Toronto's Live With Culture Office.
